Ever been a cybercrime victim??? I have been one!

Cybercrime

A threat that is increasing day-by-day in this world. Where few companies are taking privacy seriously while most others are making a joke out of public data. May it be our Schools, Colleges, Government… so on the list goes on.

Collecting data and selling it is the new business of today’s world. For a few bucks, the sites whom we trustfully/compulsorily have to give access to our personal details to buy/use their product/services, collect our data, and sell them off to marketing companies who misuse it / put our confidential data open to the public with their less secure/unencrypted data storage system. Leading to spam calls/messages and sometimes a threat to our reputation as someone might misuse our details for their personal benefits. Most commonly seen on social media nowadays.

Most of us think “What worse could someone do from my data?” Even for many of us, data security is not the top-most priority and we often take it lightly and end up causing trouble for ourselves.

Few mischievous people take our photos from google searches and represent our images as their own identity. Then keep posting shit or dirty content in public hindering our reputation amongst common ones. Some also use it to disguise and act like us and try to connect to our near and dear ones and create hate/miscommunication amongst us. Few use it to ask for funding in our name – often seen in many fake NGOs. They cheat people for their personal benefit.

What can be done? What is the solution?

Secure data in the best way possible. Use devices that act on your command and do not collect data in the background on their own without your consent. Avoid passing any unnecessary personal details on any random websites. You can also use disposable e-mails or phone numbers if it's just for temporary or one-time purpose. In a way, once you are on the internet you are never 100% secure but still, a few basic things like not using our own profile image, Avoiding location sharing to apps, not posting personal details in tweets/posts, etc. can also help in making life secure in certain ways. It all depends on us.

Obviously, a Vlogger can't hide his face and do vlogging the whole day! or maybe he can if he wishes to 😏.
